Who Am I?
The Origin Story
Born and raised in Tallahassee, Marcus Batson-Jones found music early. For the first three years of his life, he was raised primarily by both his mom and grandparents, while jazz and classical music floated through a mini radio in his room—CDs his mom would play that quietly shaped his ear and imagination. That early connection to sound became the foundation for everything.
Now based in the Southwest, Marcus is a Music Producer, Beatmaker, and Audio Engineer crafting immersive soundscapes. Influenced by J Dilla, Madlib, College Dropout era Kanye West, and Robert Glasper, his music blends warm lofi textures with hip hop grit and neo-soul grooves. Initially releasing music for years under the name “Mrcus.Jones”, he recently reintroduced himself as Marcus Batson-Jones — adding “Batson” to “Jones” in order to honor both his mother and father, carrying both legacies forward in his art.
His catalog has landed on major independent lofi hip hop playlists and has been released through respected underground instrumental hip hop labels including Dust Collectors, Lofi Classics, Chill Moon Music, Beatmology & Brunch Collect.
Marcus has performed as a solo act and an accompanying keyboardist across venues in Tucson such as Groundworks, Hotel McCoy, Catalyst Creative Collective, Juneteenth Festival, and Brick Box Brewery—and recently traveled to Los Angeles to perform at the Beats Freaks Geeks Secret Sessions hosted at Garnish Music Production School.
For Marcus, the music isn’t just sound—it’s memory, life and movement. Every instrumental is an extension of his life and a reflection of his deepest artistic expression.
